Managing Director

Charles Crawford

Charles is a well-known and widely respected figure within the Egg Industry throughout Ireland and the UK.

He has 40 years’ experience in the industry having started his career as an Egg Producer in the 1970s.  In 2007, Charles established the egg processing business Ready Egg Products, a company that was set up to as a response to market requirements for eggs for the manufacturing industry.  Charles recognised that this created a large market for the business to expand.

In 2022, the company expanded further when The Ready Egg Group acquired Skea Egg Farms Ltd, with Charles as Managing Director.

Commercial Director

Steve Hayes

Steve joined the business in June 1987 when it was a small family business owned by his father, founder of Skea Eggs, Matthew Hayes. They were a small producer and packer of cage eggs supplying the wholesale market and also small retail shops in the area.

In the early 90’s Skea commenced supply into main stream retail were Steve took responsibility of account management across all retail customers as well as helping to manage the operational side of the business, transport and packaging.

Today Steve continues to commercially manage all retail accounts in NI and GB and oversee the supply of all packaging across the business and logistics to all depots.

Agricultural Director

Harold Richmond

Harold has been with Skea Eggs for over 28 years, having seen the business grow substantially over that time.

With over 30 years in the poultry industry in total, having previously worked with broilers, turkeys and some game birds, but having worked only with laying birds in the last 28 years.

Harold is responsible for all producer agreements, packing station activities and customer links on technical and agricultural matters. He also is involved in wider industry groups, serving on the Standards Technical Advisory Group for the RSPCA Assured standards for both rearing and laying birds. He holds a role as a director of the BEIC Council and also serves on the UFU poultry committee.

HR Manager

Laura Sampson

Laura graduated with a BSC Hons in Supply Management (Food) from CAFRE and went on to study an MSC in Communication (T&D) through CAFRE and Queens University.

Through spending several years working in Retail as an HR Manager and then completing her L5 CIPD Associate Diploma Laura gained extensive HR and business knowledge.

Laura joined Skea Eggs in 2019 as HR Manager looking after all stages of the employee lifecycle including recruitment, induction, staff development, monitoring of performance, and health and well-being.

Laura is the custodian of all things HR including all policies and procedures and through strong interpersonal skills, strategic thinking, and operational expertise communicates with all levels of the business to strive for excellence.

Technical Manager

Katherine Patterson

With over 10 years of experience within Skea Eggs, Katherine started as a Quality Officer after graduating at Loughry College and has worked her way up.

Throughout her career, Katherine has led cross functional teams to implement and maintain rigorous quality systems including HACCP, GMP and BRC standards, ensuring consistent product integrity and customer satisfaction. She is passionate about building a culture of quality, empowering teams through training, data driven decision-making and collaborative problem solving.

Katherine works with a close team of quality officers who continue to champion quality and safety as strategic priorities in the production environment. Whether launching new initiatives, streamlining procedures or managing crisis responses, she consistently delivers results that align with business goals and exceed industry standards.

Operations Manager

Ryan Ferry

Ryan has over 15 years experience in the food production sector. Having risen through the ranks at Skea Eggs, his experience enables a strong, practical focus on efficiency through the application of lean principles.

He is responsible for the day-to-day operations at Skea Eggs,  overseeing production planning, resource allocation and site performance. Working alongside the Directors and the rest of the management team, his role varies based on the needs of the business.
